Breathe Refresher
Breathe Refreshers are one-hour trainings to be conducted with Head Start and similar partners each year AFTER they have completed the Initial Breathe training and received their Breathe kits.
The 3 training options are
- Breathe Refresher with Jeopardy-7-18-24 (updated)
- Breathe-Refresher-with-Family-Feud-7-18-24 (updated)
- Breathe-Refresher-with Who Wants to Be a Millionaire-7-30-24 (updated)
These trainings all follow similar formats, but each one includes different interactive elements. You are welcome to use these 3 PowerPoint presentations interchangeably, and the pre and post assessments are now the same for ALL Breathe trainings.
Steps for Conducting a Breathe Refresher Training
Before a Training
- A Breathe Refresher training should be 60 minutes so communicate this to your site contact and plan accordingly.
- You will also want to confirm the number of participants expected to attend the training.
- Confirm if the training will be in-person or virtual. For virtual trainings determine if participants will be in one room viewing you on a computer screen or if they will each be on separate computers/devices as this will impact how you deliver the training.
- Inquire about staff turnover since the last Breathe training. If turnover is significant (more than 50%) consider conducting the Initial Breathe training again.
- Determine if they need any supplemental Breathe Kit materials.
- Notify Health Ed Pros about your training and order materials (if needed) at this link and place an order for Quit Now Indiana materials as well.
- Determine which Breathe Refresher you will use, practice that training, and consider selecting a co-host or co-trainer to assist.
- Print out several copies of the Sign-in Sheet/Roster
- Print out copies of the Breathe Pre-Training Assessment Updated 7.7.23 and Breathe Post-Training Assessment Updated 7.7.23. Even if you plan to have participants complete the assessments online, have some extra hard copies as a backup.
During a Training
- Use one of the 3 PowerPoints listed above. (Be sure to personalize these slides prior to your presentation.)
- Ensure all participants fill out the sign-in sheet.
- Follow the notes sections on the Breathe Refresher PowerPoint as you go through these components of the training, (refer to the Virtual Modification section in the notes if doing a virtual Brethe Refresher):
- Complete the pre-assessment
- Play That’s Me/Time to De-Stress/Let’s Make a Salad
- Play Jeopardy/Family Feud/Who Wants to Be a Millionaire
- Review the Breathe materials
- Facilitate Value Voting/In Just One Word/Daily Dilemmas
- Review Parent Surveys
- Answer questions
- Complete the post-assessment
- Provide your contact information
After a Training
- Submit any hard copies of the pre assessments at this link and the post assessments here WITHIN ONE WEEK of your Breathe Refresher training.
- Type up the completed Sign-in Sheet and save it as a Word document (NOT a pdf).
- Provide post-training details to Health Ed Pros at this link and upload your sign-in sheet as directed.
- Follow up with the partner organization via phone or email. Thank the organization’s leadership for their on-going partnership, follow up on any information you didn’t have at the training, and provide additional materials if you did not have them on the day of the training.
- You should also send an email to the training participants to further develop your relationship with them, ensure they know how to contact you if they need assistance, provide the Breathe Refresher Training Certificate of Completion, and remind them of the link to the FOR PARTNERS webpage.
- Make a plan for on-going contact with the partner organization. Follow the Tips for Maintaining a Relationship to ensure tobacco stays on the organization’s radar, the Breathe materials are utilized, and you have opportunities to address challenges that arise and provide further education.
- One month follow-up surveys will now be done with all participants who complete a Breathe Refresher. The surveys will be conducted by Health Ed Pros, but you will be notified when the survey links are sent so you can encourage your training participants to complete the survey and you will receive the report once it is completed.
