Comprehensive Tobacco Policy Checklist

Comprehensive Tobacco Policy Checklist

For an organization to be recognized as being tobacco-free, the language of the center’s policy must express or imply that:

□            Possession or use of tobacco in any form; such as, cigar, cigarette, pipe, chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes and electronic nicotine delivery devices; is prohibited

□            The adopted policy is effective 24 hours a day

□            All buildings are tobacco free (define this area)

□            All grounds are tobacco free (define this area)

□            All of the organization’s vehicles are tobacco free

□            All staff, visitors, and parents/caregivers are subject to the policy’s regulations at all times, including while volunteering and chaperoning field trips

□            How the policy will be communicated to staff, visitors, and parents/caregivers

□            How the policy will be enforced and how infractions will be dealt with

Sample Tobacco Policy

Click here for the Sample Tobacco Free Policy. This sample policy is geared towards Head Start centers, but similar organizations can use the sample policy and make edits as needed to personalize it for the population they serve.
